Tuscaloosa’s Daily Pop-Up Farmers’ Markets Return This Week

Tuscaloosa's daily Pop-Up Farmers' Markets, a program that launched in the city last year, will return on April 1st.

The Pop-Up Farmers' Markets began last year after the city received a grant from the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service.

“Our team was so excited to be awarded the USDA grant to expand the Tuscaloosa Farmers' Market,” said City Venues Operations Manager Alexis Clark. “The River Market will continue to provide fresh fruits and vegetables on Saturdays, and these additional Pop-Up Markets around the city Monday through Friday will help to make local produce even more accessible to our citizens.”

The market will operate in a different spot in the city each weekday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., starting this Thursday, April 1. The city plans to operate the pop-up markets until the end of September.

• Mondays: McDonald Hughes Community Center, 3101 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
• Tuesdays: Harmon Park, 2901 Greensboro Ave.
• Wednesdays: Annette N. Shelby Park, 1614 15th St.
• Thursdays: McAbee Activity Center, 3901 Loop Road
• Fridays: The Gateway Innovation and Discovery Center, 2614 University Blvd. E.

The Pop-Up Farmers Market hosts 70 vendors and prominently features products from Hale Farms, a family-owned business in Chilton County.

“I believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said in a press release. “I’m very proud of our team’s initiative to make this vision a reality and thrilled to continue to expand accessibility to the Farmers Market and grow our support of local farmers.”

The Pop-Up Market will accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants & Children (WIC) & Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) payments.
