Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox says that both the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the University of Alabama Police Department will be out this weekend enforcing both local and Alabama Department of Public Health ordinances.

Maddox said that TPD and UAPD will be "very active" in enforcing the ordinances.

Maddox's tweet came as a response to that from Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Traffic Reporter Captain Ray Allen, outlining issues with students who refuse to follow social distancing guidelines and are hosting house parties.

"As a local Uber driver who does a lot of late night/early morning pickups here is what I am seeing," Allen explained. "Kids are leaving the bars and going to houses & apartments and continuing the party. [Mayor Maddox],how are you going to address this [?] Happens every night."

The City of Tuscaloosa is currently under a State of Emergency in response to the novel Coronavirus pandemic. Maddox plans to limit hours and occupancy of bars in Tuscaloosa after 9 p.m. and is expected to issue an executive order with those limitations later today (Thursday, August 6).
