The Eta Xi Omega Chapter believes that investing in our first-year educators is an investment in the future of our community,” said Althenia Morrow Tate, Eta Xi Omega Chapter President.

“These dedicated teachers are stepping into classrooms with fresh ideas, energy, and a passion to make a difference. Through the First-Year Educator Grant Award, we are proud to stand beside them as they lay the foundation for student success and lifelong learning.”

The award program was created to assist first-year educators as they navigate the challenges of teaching. When educators within the Eta Xi Omega Chapter were polled, 94% of them believed that the grant would help pave the way for a brighter future in education where passionate teachers can thrive and make a lasting impact on their students.

“The Uplift Our Local Community Initiative is focused on creating a lasting impact where it matters most. By supporting first-year educators, we are not only helping teachers thrive in the classroom but also empowering the next generation of leaders right here in Tuscaloosa,” said Lillian McKinney, Uplift Our Local Community Initiative Chair. “This grant reflects our chapter’s commitment to strengthening education and building brighter futures for our community’s children.”

Building on the success of previous years, in 2025, the Uplift Our Local Community Initiative aims to award two $500 grants to first-year educators in the Tuscaloosa City and County School systems.
