Signs College Students Are Back in Tuscaloosa This August
There’s a few things you can depend on when August hits in Tuscaloosa each and every year.
You know the excitement started to build and potentially boils over anticipating the coming football season. Fall camp talks begin, position battles and more.
One of the most noticeable things that happen every August is the return of college students.
In Tuscaloosa, we don’t hate our college students, but living here year round, you notice the summers seem a lot less stressful when it comes to certain things.

If you’re new here, or been in the city all your life, I’m sure you’d appreciate this list of signs that college students are back in Tuscaloosa.
More traffic, Longer commutes
Have you noticed that 10 minute commute all of a sudden takes 25-30 minutes now? Was it your driving that caused the extra time or something else? That's right. The students are back for the fall and quick travel times are a thing of the past.
Packed Walmart and Target Stores
Quick grocery store runs are officially a thing of the past. Long lines, more noise and be glad it's not game say...YET!
Wild Driving
Accidents anyone? It seems like out of no where accidents just happen to increase at this time. These re the months where you truly have to become a defensive driver. Carelessness and distracted driving seems to grow in the fall.
U-Haul trucks
Have you ever noticed the line of returned U-Haul vehicles when it gets close to move in time for colleges? The line could be seen from miles down the road. People are returning the vehicles all within the same few days and most have to travel back to another city or students had to rent them just to move into their new residence.
