Investigators in Tuscaloosa have charged a 14-year-old with murder and a 15-year-old with abuse of a corpse following the Sunday afternoon discovery of the body of an 18-year-old girl in the back of a car off 25th Street.

Captain Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers found the body of Elexis Lashelle McCool, 18, Sunday afternoon in the back seat of a car in the 2700 block of 25th Street.

Hart said police received several calls alerting investigators to possible suspects in the case and acting on those tips, they were able to identify the two suspects, who are 14 and 15.

The younger suspect will be charged with murder, Hart said.

The 15-year-old will be charged with first-degree theft, abuse of a corpse and obstructing government operations.

Their identities are not being release because of their age, Hart said.

Hart said more information on the case will be released Monday.
