The City of Tuscaloosa celebrated the groundbreaking for the new Bowers Park pickleball courts on Wednesday, April 30, at 10 a.m. The event featured remarks from Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor John Faile, and PARA Community Outreach Director Jay Logan.

The courts will be at 1600 James I Harrison Jr Pkwy.

Mayor Maddox emphasized the project's importance as part of the city's ongoing commitment to improve quality of life for residents

The $3.76 million initiative will feature nineteen new pickleball courts, as well as an outdoor restroom and enhanced lighting and security measures. Councilor Faile dedicated the project to his late friend, Jerry Belk, and underlined its aim to attract and retain young residents by fostering a safe and enjoyable community.

Construction is slated for completion in winter 2025.
