I had my mind blown yesterday evening. We were visiting a friend in the North River area and was supposed to bring some kind of canned dip or cheese or spread or something. We forget and had to stop at Publix off of Rice Mine. What happened inside shocked me.

We all quickly got out, grabbed a cart, flew around the store looking for the item. (I think is was cheese). As always wound up with several things in the cart that we really didn't need. OK, we're in the check out line. It moved fast, items sliding down the conveyer, a young man at the foot of the counter ready to bag... then it happened. A question that made me reply at first with "Huh?" then blink rapidly.

The Bag Boy at Publix asked "PAPER OR PLASTIC SIR?"

I don't think I have had that question asked in YEARS. I have shopped at Publix, Winn-Dixie, Vowell's Fresh Market and Wal-Mart over the last year but can't remember anyone ever asking me, paper or plastic until yesterday. My son is 5 and has NEVER seen a paper grocery bag...

I remember helping my mother bring in groceries and then 'helping' by neatly folding the bags and putting them in the pantry for cooking fish and such. Have you ever cut eye holes in a paper bag and wore it on your head ? We used paper grocery bags to make awesome book covers in school...

Anyway, I thought it was cool. I chose paper by the way and felt a bit nostalgic carrying the bag back to the car. What would you choose? Paper or Plastic?
