The University of Alabama Arboretum Has Reopened to the Public

Finally--some good news: the University of Alabama's Arboretum has reopened to the public. The Arboretum has been closed since mid-March, which has felt like an eternity. I was SO HAPPY to see that the Arboretum reopened on Saturday, November 14th.

COVID-19 protocols are in place at the Arboretum. If you want to take a hike, you're required to wear a mask anytime you're less than six feet away from a person who is not in your household. Trails are also marked in a one-way direction in an attempt to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The greenhouses, restrooms, and pavilion are closed to the public; however, portable restroom facilities have been made available. The University of Alabama has also moved extra unused picnic tables from Bryant-Denny Stadium to the Arboretum, placing them along the park grounds for visitors to use in a socially-distanced manner.

The Arboretum shares its entrance with the former golf course, now known as the Harry Pritchett Running Park. The running park will be open when the Arboretum is open, and the front gate to both properties will be closed at 3:45 p.m. daily.

If you've never been to the Arboretum, you need to check it out as soon as possible. It really is a hidden gem. The trails are lovely, and it's nice to go for a quick hike or a long walk as you see the trees, flowers, and other native plant life. It's FREE, so you really have no excuse.
