The City of Tuscaloosa takes another step to collect unpaid fines
If you've been putting it off, time has come to pay up.
The Tuscaloosa City Council has agreed to have a debt collection service go after unpaid fines for water and sewer bills. The same company already has a contract to collect fines for red-light camera and parking ticket violations. They say the biggest group of people of offenders are apartment residents leaving without paying their water bills
Based on city data, about $300,000 each year is written off in unpaid water and sewer bills and approximately $864,000 in unpaid parking tickets. Almost $267,000 has been collected from red light camera fines and about 73 percent of unpaid parking fines.
