
Sulligent PD Chief Arrested -UPDATE
Sulligent Police Chief Ricky DeWayne McDaniel is in the Fayette County Jail facing unrevealed charges. The 58-year-old was taken into custody last night and booked into the Fayette County Jail at midnight. Fayette County Jail records show that McDaniel was booked into their jail on a "Hold for Other Agency" notice.
Sulligent Mayor J. Scott Boman confirmed the arrest of Chief McDaniel this afternoon.
The arrest reportedly took place after the crash of a UTV that led to an altercation between McDaniel and a family member.
According to sources, the incident took place in Lamar County where McDaniel serves.
The 24th Circuit District Attorney's Office is investigating a case with agents from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
McDaniel was appointed Police Chief for the city of some 2,000 residents in 2017. There are 10 officers on the force according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Directory.
UPDATE: The City of Sulligent has acknowledged in a written statement that Ricky DeWayne McDaniel has been suspended as police chief pending outcome of an investigation into circumstances surrounding his arrest. The city's statement confirmed McDaniel was taken into custody after the reported UTV crash and following altercation with a family member.
