If you've ever seen the movie Big Fish you may remember that the film's writer was Alabama native Daniel Wallace who decided to set the story in his home state.

In a few scenes, the lead character visits a utopian town named Spectre which was actually built solely for filming purposes. This set was constructed on a private Alabama island and, after the movie wrapped, the buildings were left in ruins instead of being demolished.

The set of Spectre, Alabama still stand today although many of the structures have collapsed excluding the chapel and a couple of houses. The property is located on the banks of the Alabama river and for $3 you can tour the dilapidated community.
