Although many houses take months or even years to be fully constructed, one house in Montevallo was assembled from the ground up in 3 hours, 26 minutes, and 34 seconds.

What started as a mere thought exploded into a full-blown event after Mark Davis, a Shelby County Habitat Board member, travelled to New Zealand to watch the previous home-building record be broken. He then partnered with Chad Calhoun of Brice Building Co. who helped gather volunteers, sponsors, blood, sweat, and tears in order to build a home in time for the holidays. More than 150 men and women volunteered to work and over 400 people congregated to watch the development take place.

The recipient of the house was Bonnie Lilly, a single mother and nurse technician. Before being awarded this amazing gift, Lilly had reached out to Habitat for Humanity three separate times and was rejected. Her application was finally accepted and her home is now located in the New Hope Village in Montevallo, Alabama.
