Just one day after the conference athletic directors met in Birmingham, the SEC announces postpone to the start of three SEC sports. Volleyball, soccer and cross country will all delay competitions through at least August 31.

The SEC only has two men's soccer teams with South Carolina and Kentucky.

Alabama Volleyball does not have a 2020 schedule available online through the official university website nor the SEC website. However its 2019 schedule began on August 24 and had four matches in the month of August.

The Crimson Tide cross country team has a women's 5k and a men's four-mile event scheduled in Memphis, Tenn at Christian Brothers University on August 31 which is now looking to be cancelled.

While the three sports are not known for significant revenue or followings, it is interesting that the delay comes just one day after the conference athletic directors meet in Birmingham.

The SEC declared that any rescheduling on non-conference contests that are impacted by the postponement will be up to the school to handle.

The conference decided to delay these sports starting to provide addition time to prepare for the safe return to competition on an adjusted timeline.

The full SEC press release can be read here.

With all thoughts surrounding the beginning of football and questioning if the season will be played in full, it is apparent the wide reaching impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on all sports.
