School Shootings, Participation Trophies, and More Respect for Teachers

In the wake of the recent Florida school shooting, some teachers say parents need to instill respect for authority in their children and in some cases discipline their children to a higher degree.  My question is, how will this help stop school shootings????

Lets look at the comments made recently by a Sheriff in Wisconsin who says, “Teachers need to have the support of parents when they make disciplinary decisions and parents need to resist the urge of running to the defense of their children when a teacher feels the need to discipline.  It undermines their authority and will likely be treated as an example for actions toward others in authority in the future.”

He added that more gun control “will do nothing more than place a very small band aid on a much bigger problem.”  Schmidt goes on to say, “It’s my belief that the root cause starts with our youth lacking basic skills including respect for authority figures like parents and teachers, the ability to cope with conflict and the ability to handle rejection.”

Most teachers seek the support of parents when they make disciplinary decisions and parents need to resist the urge of running to the defense of their children when a teacher feels the need to discipline according to Sheriff Schmidt who wrote wrote. “It undermines their authority and will likely be treated as an example for actions toward others in authority in the future.”

It may seem like a stretch, or maybe even a broad jump to connect participation trophies to school shootings but the fact is, we've gotta do something!  We must make some  changes, we gotta keep our kids safe, and we gotta try some new tactics and maybe it starts at home.  #WildBillShow  #Prayers4AllSchools #DonHartley
