Alabama's new standards for outdoor dog care are known as Beau's Law. This is good news for dog lovers.

Effective October 1, 2026, Beau's Law establishes minimum care requirements for outdoor dogs, including adequate food, clean water, proper shelter, secure enclosures, and safe tethering practices.
The law also prohibits unsafe tethering devices and provides enforcement measures to protect dogs from neglect and dangerous conditions.
All pet owners should review the guide on the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page and ensure they are prepared before the law takes effect.
Beau’s Law is much needed in Alabama. As a dog lover, I’m sickened by the thought of dogs left outside, in the heat, chained, and without enough food and water. I commend our Alabama lawmakers for getting this done.
If you observe a situation that violates Beau’s Law, please contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department.
Together, we can keep our furry friends safe.
