Derrick Henry won’t leave Alabama without his name at the top of at least one Crimson Tide record.

The junior running back scored in his 11th straight game against Arkansas on Saturday, breaking the school record for most consecutive games with at least one touchdown. Former quarterback Terry Davis was the previous record holder.

Henry set the new mark on his 1-yard touchdown run with 2:44 to go in the game, which put the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide up 27-7. Henry had a career-high 27 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown, and Alabama ultimately won 27-14.

Davis, who played at Alabama from 1970-72, scored in 10 straight games from Nov. 6, 1971-Oct. 21, 1972. He finished fifth in the 1972 Heisman Trophy voting, a year in which the Crimson Tide went 10-2.

Henry began his streak with a 1-yard touchdown run against then-No. 1 Mississippi State last November. Including that touchdown, Henry has scored 18 times (17 rushing, one receiving) across 11 games since then. He scored eight times over the final five games last season and has 10 rushing scores in six games so far this season.

Henry has 665 rushing yards on 120 carries this season.

Griffith inconsistent

After connecting on four straight field goals entering Saturday, Alabama kicker Adam Griffith had an up-and-down performance against Arkansas.

The junior from Calhoun, Georgia made his first attempt, a 24-yarder that gave the Crimson Tide a 3-0 lead after its first series of the game, and his last, a 35-yarder in the fourth quarter, with two misses – from 25 and 48 yards – between the two makes.

Griffith missed two field goals apiece during the Tide’s first two games of the season against Wisconsin and Middle Tennessee State. He then hit four in a row across the team’s next three games – Ole Miss, Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia – followed by a fifth to begin the game against the Razorbacks.

For his career, Griffith has made 19 of 34 field goal attempts (56 percent). Through six games this season, he has made 6 of 12.

Alabama coach Nick Saban most recently spoke about Griffith this past Wednesday.

"I think that we've always had confidence in Griff," Saban said. "I think early in the season he struggled a little bit. I think he needed to make some kicks. He's made some. I think it's the same challenge for him as it is for all of us to maintain the kind of consistency that you want."

First-time starter

True freshman defensive lineman Daron Payne made his first-career start during Saturday’s win over Arkansas.

Payne, a 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle/nose tackle, recorded three tackles against the Razorbacks. In the first significant action of his Alabama career last week at Georgia, Payne recorded one tackle and one pass breakup.

Payne, who has seen the field in every game so far this season, was a consensus five-star prospect out of Shades Valley High School in Irondale.

Payne’s teammates have had high praise for the freshman, even before Saturday’s contest.

“Oh, man, he's made quite an impression,” junior defensive lineman Jonathan Allen said last Monday. “Very mature for his age. Great understanding of the playbook. Physical specimen. He's done a good job adapting to our program and he's sitting there quite nicely.”

Game captains

Cornerback Cyrus Jones, defensive lineman Jarran Reed and tight end O.J. Howard served as Alabama’s captains Saturday.

Both Jones and Reed are senior starters on the Crimson Tide defense. Jones arrived as a freshman in 2012, while Reed came as a junior college transfer last season.

Howard, the team’s starting tight end, is a junior. He currently ranks third on the team in receiving yards (200) and fourth in receptions (16). He hasn’t scored a touchdown this season.

The Crimson Tide won the opening toss and deferred to the second half.

For Jones and Howard, Saturday’s game marked the second time each has been a captain this season. Reed had not yet previously been a captain this season. Center Ryan Kelly and linebacker Reggie Ragland, both seniors, have been captains in three of Alabama’s six games in 2015.
