New Artwork Series at Druid City Brewing Company to Feature SEC Rivals
Druid City Brewing Company is becoming about as well known for the themed chalk art gracing their menu board as they are for their craft beer!
Of course there was the Beetlejuice theme at Halloween and caricatures of a few of their employees as leprechauns for St. Patrick's Day but the most talked about seem to come from Alabama athletic art.
Some of the past masterpieces have included Michelangelo's 'The Creation of Adam' re-envisioned with "Bear" Bryant and Nick Saban, Lane Tiffin taking the place of Venus in a rendering of Sandro Botticelli's 'The Birth of Venus' and Coach Avery Johnson standing in for George Washington as he crossed the Delaware in a chalk-version of the painting by the German American artist Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze.
The latest artwork, recreated by Ryan Watson, features a revised version of Michael Jackson's classic Thriller album cover featuring LSU Football Coach Les Miles! The drawing even includes a sprig of grass between his teeth, a corn dog in his hand and the phrase "Not a beer fan? Just Beat It" overhead.
Druid City Brewing Company Head Brewmaster Bo Hicks said,
During the off season we thought we'd focus on Alabama's SEC rivals.
Then he didn't answer when I asked him who was next, thus letting the imagination fly.
Here are my suggestions:
- MSU Coach Dan Mullen sitting at a table full of bulldogs playing poker or maybe a depiction of Mullen singing to a bulldog as Elvis did with a Bassett hound on The Ed Sullivan Show.
- Florida Coach Jim McElwain as the Crocodile Hunter
- South Carolina Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier as... well, you get the picture.
Maybe I'll leave the ideas to the artists who create the fine work on the chalkboard. In the meantime, go see the artwork for yourself and enjoy a cold, local pint!
