During a recent drive to Fayette I stopped by the field where two years ago my best friend and I grew an acre (and a half) worth of pumpkins for absolutely no reason at all.

Despite Tammy's insistence, her pleas to plant Baby Boos and Connecticut Field seeds once more have fallen on deaf ears. Aside from making us work a bunch in the sun, the patch demanded so much time and a lot has changed since the day she first mentioned she always wanted to grow pumpkins. I'm just not sure I'm strong enough for another battle with Japanese beetles or fungus.

We also grew pretty amazing pumpkins and I'm not sure if lightening can strike twice.

Still I felt nostalgic driving up the now washed-out drive to the field. I flirted with the idea of giving in for about :03 seconds before an image of us dragging hoses through weeds and being scared of snakes intruded.

Today the patch looks abandoned but our mark is still evident. A few broken bottles remain from the $1 sale they were having on them at Walmart (we were going to make lights...) and we never did go back to get the buckets cast aside from our failed irrigation idea.

I'm 99.9% I'm not quite ready to go that hard with nature again but a lot can happen between now and May...
