Much Needed Rain Expected in Alabama Plus Occasional Thunderstorms
Due to existing drought conditions, the idea of an influx of rain is welcoming. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, almost every portion of Alabama has some drought concern.
However, according to the report, the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that 30.28% of the 50 states and Puerto Rico are experiencing moderate drought or worse, a slight decrease from 31.44% recorded last week.
Rain Outlook from James Spann
“Rain is widespread across Alabama early this morning. Also, the rain will taper off by midday, and we expect just a few isolated showers this afternoon and tonight,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
“Another large rain mass will move into Alabama late tonight and will continue through tomorrow. The rain could be heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms will likely be involved. By late afternoon and tomorrow night, most of the rain will be over South Alabama.”
For Sunday, any lingering showers will end early.
Any Severe Weather?
Weather conditions have shifted the potential severe weather threat toward the far southern portions of Alabama. If you are traveling in this area, be prepared for the change of strong to severe storms developing this afternoon through Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the area for possible severe weather is generally near and south of the U.S. Highway 80 corridor. The main concerns for this area is a brief tornado and isolated damaging wind gusts. The probable timeframe is between Friday 4 p.m. until Saturday evening.
