Strong to Severe Storms Plus Rising Heat Levels in Alabama
In a classic summer weather pattern, there is the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of Alabama during the afternoon and evening timeframe.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “The chance of any one spot seeing rain each day is in the 20-25 percent range."
Risk Areas and Levels
The Storm Prediction Center has placed some West Alabama counties under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe storms today.
- Northern Section of Pickens and Tuscaloosa Counties
- Entire Counties of Fayette, Lamar, and Walker
The main threat during these strong to severe thunderstorms is that “these storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Rising Heat Levels
Across the southern region, including Alabama, the air has become more stable and will continue over the next few days. This could lead to a rise in warmer temperatures.

Looking Ahead
As of right now, the hottest day of the upcoming week is Tuesday, with thunderstorms in the forecast over the next few days.
