Man charged with Murder after Girlfriend’s Baby Was Found Drowned
Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit have charged a 27-year-old man with murder after his girlfriend's year-old son was found Drowned Friday.
Captain Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the VCU, said police and rescue officers were called to Creekwood Village Apartments early Friday morning on reports of an unresponsive infant.
They found the 1-year-old unresponsive and he was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.
Hart said the baby was with his mother's boyfriend while she was at work.
The suspect, Christopher Cornelius Pearson, said the baby seemed lethargic and be placed it in a bathtub with water running to try to wake him up.
He told police that when he came back to the bathroom the baby was almost completely underwater, and that he performed CPR until medical personnel arrived.
Hart said investigators processed the scene and interviewed witnesses and found probable cause to charge Pearson with murder.
Pearson was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
