Mac Jones Wins SEC Player of the Week
For the fourth time this season, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. Jones was instrumental in the Crimson Tide's 42-13 victory over the Auburn Tigers this past weekend.
Jones threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns, tying an Iron Bowl record for touchdown passes. Jones has received the award for the fourth time this year, the other three came against Texas A&M, Georgia and Tennessee.
Saturday's Iron Bowl marked the fifth time this season that Jones has thrown for over 300 yards in a game this year. To date, he has thrown for 2,728 yards and 23 touchdowns this season.
The successful performance for was especially meaningful for Jones considering he threw two interceptions in this game last year, both resulting in Auburn scores and eventually an Auburn victory.
The junior quarterback led Alabama to scoring drives on three of the first four possessions for the Crimson Tide to give Alabama a 21-3 halftime lead. Jones would tack on the final two touchdowns in the second half.
Four of his five touchdown passes went to DeVonta Smith and John Metchie III. Alabama sophomore Jahleel Billingsley hauled in his first touchdown catch of his career on a 24-yard catch and run.
Jones is sixth in the nation in passing yards and tied for seventh in passing touchdowns. He has led the Crimson Tide to an undefeated start to its season and leads all Power 5 quarterbacks with passer efficiency rating of 208.
