Long-Standing Tuscaloosa Gas Station Closes Unexpectedly
Tuscaloosa was caught off guard today when a long-standing service station abruptly called it quits. The Raceway gas station off 15th Street/Veteran's Memorial Parkway is now closed.
Those who've lived in T-Town more than likely think of the Raceway as an institution--it's been there for years and years. The service station was almost always packed with motorists fueling their vehicles or grabbing a quick snack; Raceway was also a popular spot for college students to frequent when picking up party supplies.
Raceway was hit hard by the April 27, 2011 tornado, but the service station remodeled and rebuilt. Their closing was seen as a surprise by many. Those who went to fuel up at Raceway were greeted with a note on the door informing patrons that the station was no longer in business.
