Alabama state Rep. Curtis Travis, who represents House District 72 donated legislative funding directly to schools within his district. Those schools include Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Central Elementary, Westlawn Middle School and the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy. Each of these schools received at least $4,000 to be used for school-specific needs.

The funding is intended to support areas that often fall outside traditional budget lines, giving principals added flexibility to address both classroom and campus improvements.

On Tuesday, Travis visited Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary to personally present the check to students and Principal LaTonya Williams-Collins. Students gathered to thank him, and Williams-Collins expressed deep appreciation for the support.

“We are always so ecstatic about getting money that we can spend on our lovely children and our faculty and staff,” she said according to the press release. “We know that there have been some things that have sometimes, you know, kind of gone by the wayside because of funding. And so it's just a joy to receive this money so that we can connect those things to what we're doing here at MLK.”

Tuscaloosa City Schools said in the press release that they are grateful for Travis’ ongoing commitment to public education and investment in the success of students across his district.
