Join the Literacy Council of West Alabama (LCWA) for its annual fundraiser, Characters in the Garden, happening Sunday, September 21, from 5-8 p.m. at Tree House Farm & Nursery in Northport, Alabama.

“This one-of-a-kind event transforms the gardens into an immersive world inspired by Southern Gothic literature,” said the press release.  “Bringing characters and authors to life through storytelling, performance, and art.”

The evening will feature food, drinks, engaging storytelling, and live performances including the Alabama Blues Project. The proceeds from the event will support LCWA and its efforts to promote literacy for children, adults, and families throughout the region.

Characters in the Garden Event Highlights

Literature lovers are in for a treat with special appearances by well-known authors like Marie Bostwick and Terah Shelton Harris. Guests will be able to hear live readings, purchase books, and have them signed personally.

Guests will have the opportunity to view an iconic quilt by renowned artist Yvonne Wells, who will also share her art and discuss the art of story quilting.

Artist Janet Vieira will bring the event to life with custom décor and backdrops, and will create personalized engraved leather LCWA bookmarks for guests.

According to the press release, the event will also include a “live auction that will feature extraordinary opportunities and artwork.”
