Bees are definitely dominating the news in Alabama this month for a few reasons.

The first has to do with the sudden concern that many of our local honeybees are disappearing and dying at a time when they are critically needed to pollinate our planet.

In the effort to provide a completely transparent report, I must let you know that I am seriously allergic to bees.

After decades of waiting and worrying about these “killer bees” the day has arrived, and so have the killer bees in the state of Alabama.

Reports today and earlier this week have indicated that the “killer bees” have been discovered in Alabama and more specifically in Barbour County, Alabama.

One of our news partners, ABC 33/40, reported that a “swarm of killer bees has been discovered in Barbour County and is leading to many concerned individuals in and around Barbour County.

A local beekeeper encountered the swarming killer bees as he removed a large colony of bees that had initially appeared to be honey bees.

The beekeeper described the bees as “very aggressive” according to ABC 33/40.

One of the scariest reports from the beekeeper involved his quick move to get at least a couple hundred yards away from the bees and while he was not stung, ABC 33/40 reported that he had “hundreds of stingers” left in his pants.

Here’s to hoping these bees don’t spread across the state of Alabama and are dealt with in Barbour County.

This is a developing story that we’ll continue to report on as we get more information on this discovery of “killer bees” in Alabama.
