Kids in Tuscaloosa are Fighting Hunger a Can at a Time
Kids in T-Town are again making a difference in our community and helping fight hunger in the area.
Tuscaloosa City Schools are hosting the 4th annual Canstruction, Jr. event at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center Feb. 28-March 3. 15 school teams are collecting canned food to create large sculptures made from those canned food items.
The partnership with The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa provides the student to create these works of art made entirely out of full cans of food and display them to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the viewing, all food will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank.
TCS students have raised over 20,000 pounds of food so far for the West Alabama Food Bank.
The displays will be on exhibit Tuesday, February 28-March 3. There's a public reception March 3 from 5 - 6 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 5:45.
Gallery hours are weekdays 9 a.m.-noon and 1 -4 p.m.
