Northport elects a new mayor on August 26th.

Jason Barksdale, a candidate for mayor, appeared on the 95.3 the Bear Steve & DC Morning Show earlier this week to make his case for voters.

Barksdale is a Holt High School graduate who worked 18 years for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International before opening his own landscaping business.

Barksdale said he wants to see Northport become a thriving city and not remain a sleepy, bedroom community.

The candidate said that the ship has sailed on the $350 million University Beach development. He supports the project, but has concerns about the selected location.

Barksdale has pledged to return his first year's salary as mayor. He said the money will go to help with area school-related needs, etc.

Steve & DC lobbied for a Northport movie theatre and a Culver’s Restaurant. Stay tuned.

Barksdale said he pays no attention to personal attacks on social media. Politics as usual? Barksdale reminded listeners that he’s not a politician.

Northport citizens are invited to attend a forum on August 12th at the Northport Community Center. Barksdale encouraged citizens to ask questions, stating that he’s happy to talk with anybody.
