James Spann Blasts Ohio Meteorologist for ‘Irresponsible’ Call

As much of Alabama prepares for potential severe weather, James Spann is doing all he can making sure residents are informed and safe. Part of that duty seems to be addressing other meteorologist who chime in online with "irresponsible" comments.

Saturday afternoon, Bryan Hughes of WOWK-TV which serves the Charleston–Huntington area made a post on Facebook mentioning the possibility of dying from a tornado.

"WILL YOU DIE TODAY?"

Above are the first words of the post Hughes made on Facebook which featured a graphic mentioning chances of a tornado death within a certain distance.

The post went on to say, "There’s a 6% chance you or someone you know will die from a tornado today. If you’re in that zone in Alabama or Georgia…you should be prepared! Seriously, there’s a map for almost anything these days."

James Spann decided to comment on the post made by Hughes and the message from Spann was quite clear.

"This is very irresponsible. If you scare my people like this, I will call you out."

Hughes responded to the comment made by James Spann saying, "The science and data is there and if the science is what makes people pay attention to one of the biggest events in nearly 10 years… then the message has been conveyed."

There was also a comment made by Hughes to Spann saying " respectfully…you ratchet up language when needed. And I don’t know why you need to call me out."

The post seems to be getting quite a bit of attention online. At the time of writing the post has over 1,000 shares and close to 700 comments.
