To many, Memorial Day weekend is the “unofficial” kick-off to summer. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the official start of summer is “Sunday, June 20, 2021.” This is also known as the summer solstice; it’s when the “sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky.” Now, on the other hand, the meteorological summer starts June 1st and ends on August 31st.  Either way, Alabamians are excited that summer is coming.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist lets us know that for Memorial Day Weekend to get ready because “cooler, drier air rolls into the state late tomorrow night, and we expect delightful weather for the holiday weekend. Sunny, pleasant days, fair cool nights Saturday through Monday. Highs will be only in the mid to upper 70s Saturday and Sunday, followed by mid-80s Monday. Morning lows will be mostly in the 50s, but colder spots will reach the 40s early Sunday morning. Unusually cool for Memorial Day in Alabama.”

Be sure to check out the forecast and temperatures for your county from the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
