As of Monday, Tuscaloosa is home to an indoor baseball and softball academy with batting cages available for the public to book.

The 15,000-square-foot facility located at 1932 E. 13th St. is owned and operated by D-Bat, with over 150 similar baseball and softball training centers currently opened nationwide.

D-Bat Tuscaloosa offers 12 cages, 10 designated for batting drills and two with pitching lanes. Three of the cages offer pitching machines that can be booked by the public at the location's website, dbattuscaloosa.com, starting at $25 for each half hour. Professional instruction for baseball and softball are also available, along with over 50 annual camps and clinics for all experience levels an announcement on Facebook said.

On September 19, former Alabama ace and current pro within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization Garrett McMillan will host a four week camp for athletes ages 6-18 at the new complex. Slots for the multi-date event are still open and broken into age groups 6 to 10 and 10 to 18 years old.

Bats, helmets, gloves and other gear from the sports' top brands are available at D-Bat's Pro Shop in the facility's front lobby.

Membership starts at $38 per month and includes 15 daily batting cage tokens along with a discount on lessons, camps, clinics and Pro Shop merchandise. For an extra $20 each month, the Platinum Membership includes unlimited daily pitching machine tokens and larger discounts on the previously mentioned services.

As D-Bat aims to be more than just a training spot for West Alabama baseball and softball players, coaches and teams, it also hosts birthday parties with included pitching machine time in its two packages.

The new facility is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
