Architects Present Final Design for Northport’s River Run Park Ball Fields
Local architects were in Northport Tuesday night to present their final vision for new tournament-ready baseball and softball fields at the newly rebranded Northport Shore property.
The plans include adding nine new fields that representatives from Chambless King Architects said they will design with an eye toward Northport's natural environment and storied history.
The fields and more, now to be called River Run Park, will be built on 36 elevated acres south of Kentuck Park, close to the banks of the Black Warrior River.
The plans call for two "signature" fields one for baseball and one for softball, with expanded seating, their own dugouts and conference room, locker room for umpires, press boxes and more. The two fields will be joined by a pedestrian bridge designed to evoke the iconic railroad trestle bridge there, and between them will sit a Champions Plaza for team pictures, advertising opportunities and more.

The plan was presented by TTL Vice President Frank Summers and representatives from Chambless King Architects at a special meeting Tuesday night.
He said their primary design influences were Boston's Fenway Park and Birmingham's Rickwood Field, and that joining those designs with elements from Northport like "honest" materials and "delicate" steel will make a destination worth traveling to.
