One of Tuscaloosa’s most accomplished professional athletes is calling it a career.

Tuscaloosa native and Hillcrest High School graduate Tim Anderson has announced his retirement from professional baseball after 10 seasons in the major leagues.

Anderson spent the majority of his career with the Chicago White Sox before later playing for the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels.

For people back home in West Alabama, Anderson’s career gave Tuscaloosa baseball fans one of their own to follow on one of the biggest stages in sports.

Anderson became a two-time American League All-Star, earning selections in 2021 and 2022. He also won the American League batting title in 2019 and earned a Silver Slugger Award in 2020.

One of the defining moments of his career came during MLB’s Field of Dreams game in 2021. Anderson delivered a walk-off home run for the White Sox against the New York Yankees, creating a moment that became one of the most memorable highlights of his career.

Now, the White Sox are preparing to honor their former shortstop.

Anderson will be celebrated during a special pregame ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 17, recognizing the career of the two-time All-Star and former American League batting champion.

Long before the MLB accolades and nationally televised moments, Anderson’s story had roots right here in Tuscaloosa.

From Hillcrest High School to becoming an MLB All-Star and batting champion, Tim Anderson represented Tuscaloosa on baseball’s biggest stage for a decade.

Now, No. 7 is officially hanging up the cleats.
