Alabama Alert: Damaging Winds, Hail, Tornado Risk Threat Expanded

Alabamians are encouraged to stay updated on the incoming weather system that will bring strong to severe weather across the State.

The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the “Slight Risk” level to include the entire state of Alabama.

TIP: Because severe weather is expected during the evening, late night, and overnight hours, make sure not to silence your phone before going to bed. Also, it is a great idea to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Bibb: 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Fayette: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Greene: 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Hale: 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Lamar: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Perry: 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Pickens: 6 p.m. – Midnight

Sumter: 8 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Tuscaloosa: 8 p.m. – Midnight

Walker: 6 p.m. – Midnight

Primary Threats

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “The primary threat with the storms late this afternoon and tonight will come from strong, potentially damaging straight line winds. But a few isolated tornadoes are possible. Some hail could be involved as well.”

There will also be an influx of rain, with some areas receiving one to two inches and others over two inches, which could cause some flooding concerns.
