Alabama's Kool-Aid McKinstry knows he's struggled on punt returns and he knows he has competition for that slot on his team.

"I’m just here for the team," McKinstry said Tuesday. "Whenever my number is called, I’ll step up.

"Caleb [Downs, he of the 85-yard TD vs. Chattanooga] did a good job this weekend," McKinstry continued on Tuesday. "I feel like he stepped into the role and did a good job, scoring a touchdown. He went out there and did well for the team."

But what about this week? Does Nick Saban go with McKinstry or Downs deep for punts at raucously loud Jordan-Hare Stadium? Nobody knows.

"When my number’s called," McKinstry said  at his media availability Tuesday, "I’ll be ready."

On another unrelated note, McKinstry dispelled running back Roydell Williams' notion that Williams was the team's top basketball player.

"Roydell is being very delusional," McKinstry deadpanned. "He can a little bit, hut he's kind of a shorter big man. Who expects him to be a good basketball player?

"My starting five from the football team would be me, Terrion [Arnold], 'Spooty' [Antonio Kite], Dallas [Turner] and [Kadyn] Proctor."

Williams, who claims he can play any basketball position one through five, had a quick response for his teammate.

"You can't listen to Kool-Aid. I can go hoop right now. I'm a big man, too. I can play the big, I can play the one, I can take it up the court, whatever. Post up. Post fade. Whatever they need."

Though he didn't name a full starting five, Williams did say he'd take both McKinstry and Arnold on his team. "Probably another big man. I don't need to play inside," he said.
