Alabama Running Back Richard Young Enters Transfer Portal
The Crimson Tide's first running back to start a game in the 2025 season has entered the transfer portal, according to a report by Chris Hummer of 247 Sports. Young started Alabama's first game of the season against Florida State after an injury to Jam Miller during Alabama's second scrimmage of fall camp.

Young, a 5-foot-11, 212-pound running back from LeHigh Acres High School in Lehigh Acres, Florida, was ranked as a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Oregon.
In three years with the Crimson Tide, Young carried the ball 59 times for 234 yards, averaging four yards per carry, with five rushing touchdowns. He also caught two receptions for 13 yards.
During the 2025 season, Young only saw action in five games for the Crimson Tide and recorded stats in four. He started the Tide's first game of the season against Florida State, carrying the ball nine times for 26 yards. Over the rest of the season, he had 14 carries for 38 yards and two touchdowns. His role diminished as Alabama saw a slight emergence from redshirt freshman Kevin Riley, sophomore Daniel Hill, and the return of senior running back Jam Miller from injury after week three.
Young is the fourth player to enter the transfer portal for Alabama this season, joining wide receiver Bubba Hampton, safety Kameron Howard, and offensive lineman Roq Montgomery.
