Is Littering in Alabama Actually Illegal?
When I was a kid, we littered.
Everybody did. It was kinda the American way.

Come on. Anybody above the age of 30 remembers the days of throwing KITCHEN BAGS FULL OF GARBAGE RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW WHILE DRIVING.
And listening to Steve and DC on Z102.
Or
Maybe it was just me…
I know I suck-
Well, we kinda frown on littering in Alabama now. But that doesn’t keep many West Alabama folks from ILLEGALLY DUMPING ALL OVER THE AREA!
Illegal Dumping is getting worse in Selma, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.
But- Littering is ALSO ON THE RISE!
In case you are wondering-
Alabama Code Title 13A. Criminal Code § 13A-7-29 says that someone commits the crime of littering if they do any of the following:
-"Knowingly deposits in any manner litter on any public or private property or in any public or private waters without permission to do so."
-"Negligently deposits, in any manner, glass or other dangerously pointed or edged objects on or adjacent to water to which the public has lawful access for bathing, swimming, or fishing, or on or upon a public highway or within the right-of-way."
(I know we ALL LOVE THROWING GLASS IN THE RIVER– but it needs to stop, y’all)
-"Discharges sewage, oil products, or litter into a river, inland lake, or stream within the state or within territorial waters of the state."
(Again - WE ARE ALL GUILTY OF DISCHARGING SEWAGE IN A RIVER– but let’s tamp it down a bit YO)
BTW- THERE ARE STIFF FINES FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE INFRACTIONS.
And, I will add, YOU SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THIS BEAUTIFUL STATE IF YOU LITTER!
Let’s keep Alabama THE Beautiful!
