Hewitt-Trussville pulls away from Tuscaloosa County, Wins 50-18

The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (4-0, 2-0) pulled away from the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats (1-3, 0-2) Friday night to secure their second straight region win 50-18.

What started out as a close game full of penalties and turnovers in the first half completely flipped when the Huskies scored six touchdowns in the last half of the game.

Huskies’ head coach Josh Floyd was glad his team could change the tide in the second half.

“I thought we came out in the second half and performed much better,” Floyd said. “I didn’t like the way we played in the first half. I thought we were a little sloppy.”

In the first half alone, the Huskies fumbled and lost the ball twice.

Luckily for Hewitt-Trussville, senior running back and Auburn University commit Armoni Goodwin led the path for Hewitt-Trussville with three touchdowns and 215 rushing yards. Right behind him, senior running back Sean Jackson accounted for a single touchdown and 96 yards.

Although Huskies junior quarterback Cade Carruth only passed for 93 yards, going 10-for-17, he added a rushing score on a six-yard quarterback keeper. Also scoring a rushing touchdown was senior quarterback Jackson Holland.

Hewitt-Trussville’s defense put on a show tonight. The Huskies picked off Tuscaloosa County senior quarterback Connor White four times, one of which was a “pick-six.”

Still, White accounted for half of the Wildcats’ scoring. He passed for 127 yards with a single passing touchdown to senior running back Damien Taylor.

Taylor has been the leader of the offense this season, and tonight he showed why. Taylor averaged five yards a carry, rushing for 83 yards and the Wildcats’ other touchdown.

Wildcats’ head coach Jay Todd had high praise for Taylor, despite the loss.

“He cares about his teammates," Todd said of Taylor. "He is a really good leader."

Throughout the night, Taylor was seen on the sideline encouraging teammates and talking to his linemen.

While Hewitt-Trussville will look to keep their winning streak alive next week versus region foe Thompson, Tuscaloosa County hopes to bounce back with a road trip to Vestavia in a region game of their own.
