Here's An Interesting Dog Fact You Didn't Know

Did you know that dogs have a "third eyelid?" According to iHeartDogs, dogs have what is called a nictitating membrane, or haw that has many benefits including:

  • protecting their eye the way the other eyelids do and can wipe debris off the surface of the eye
  • It has a gland that produces 1/3 of tears for the eye
  • It has some limpid tissue in the glad that helps fight off infection

Every week, we team up with the Humane Society of West Alabama to bring you a pet that's looking for a home. This week's HSWA Pet of the Week is an animal with a pair of those 3rd eyelids. Her name is Holly.

Press Release

Holly is a 2-year old terrier mix who looks more like a large Miniature Pinscher. She was found as a stray, but was incredibly stressed at the shelter so we have taken her into our care and she is already much more social and friendly. Holly would love someone who is patient with her while she learns to be more comfortable and confident in her new environment. Once she knows you, she will come to you for affection and then show off her excitement by running around at top speed. She is a sweet and spunky girl who deserves an owner whose heart is as big as her own.

Holly is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Please call us at 205-554-0011 (leave a message) or email humaneswa@yahoo.com to set up an appointment to meet her.
