There is a concern about hazardous heat conditions in West and Central Alabama as hot and humid conditions will continue over the next several days. “Heat indices could rise up to 109 degrees at times,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Heat Advisory Timeframe Extended Again

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has continued the existing “heat advisory” until Thursday, June 16, until 7 p.m.

Severe Weather Threat

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said “during the heat of the day, random, scattered storms will likely form over the southern 2/3 of the state, and those could pack a punch. SPC maintains a "slight risk" (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms today mainly for areas south of I-59.”

The potential for these storms could take place between 2 p.m. through 10 p.m. The main concerns are damaging winds, possible quarter-size hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning.
