A Louisiana man was walking in floodwaters left behind by Hurricane Ida. The man’s wife heard screams from outside the family home.  She went outside and found a large alligator attacking her husband, according to sheriff’s department reports.

The man's wife immediately ran to try and help her husband by stopping the alligator attack. When the alligator let go of the woman’s husband, she pulled her husband from the floodwater. She then went for first aid supplies. When the man's wife returned with first aid supplies, she realized he was seriously injured. The gator had ripped one of the man’s arms from his shoulder.

The wife went for help, but could not locate her injured husband after returning.

The 71-year-old Slidell man is presumed dead. All search attempts have failed to find a body.

Sheriff Randy Smith is warning citizens about walking in floodwaters in Louisiana. Alligators and other wildlife have moved closer into neighborhoods. Gator attacks are now a threat to people and small animals near flooded areas. And many of these areas continue to be without electricity.
