Alabama appears to have hired a new football coach. Freddie Roach returns to the Capstone after several years away to coach the Crimson Tide defensive line. Former defensive line coach Brian Baker has moved to an off-field role with the program. Roach comes to Alabama after coaching defensive line at Ole Miss for the past three seasons.

Roach already has a deep connection to Tuscaloosa after playing his college football for the Crimson Tide. Roach played linebacker at Alabama from 2002-05, He was named National Freshman of the year and a freshman All-American. He was selected twice to the second team All-SEC team and named to Alabama’s All-Decade team for the 2000s. Roach began his coaching career with the Crimson Tide where he served as a Strength and Conditioning coach from 2008-10. He also served as Director of Player Development for the 2015-16 seasons at Alabama.

Despite no official announcement by the university Roach was seen on social media at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences recruiting for the Crimson Tide. Roach will be in charge of Labryan Ray, Phidarian Mathis, Christian Barmore, DJ Dale and the rest of the Tide’s defensive linemen for the 2020 season.
