Former UA Defensive Back Lands Role on ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’

Caleb Castille, a former defensive back for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has secured a regular role on “NCIS: Los Angeles.” 

Castille, who plays FBI agent Devin Rountree, was previously a recurring guest star but he is now set to join the core cast at the beginning of season 12.  Before landing a permanent gig with “NCIS: Los Angeles,” Caleb starred in CBS All Access' "Tell Me A Story” and Hulu's "Wu-Tang: An American Saga.”

At the end of the show’s eleventh season where Caleb’s character appeared in three episodes, Agent Rountree is forced to decide if remaining in the City of Angels is the best move for his career after agents G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) offer him a spot on NCIS’ Office of Special Operations.

The show’s executive producer, Kyle Harimoto, praised Caleb’s exceptional work ethic as both an athlete and an actor in an interview with “Deadline.”

“We saw Caleb’s work, flew him out to meet with us and knew immediately that he was going to be the person to give life to FBI Agent Devin Rountree,” Harimoto said. “And now that we have a two-time national football champion from the University of Alabama in our cast, we’d like to formally bring back the Entertainment Flag Football League.”

The Castille family solidified themselves as an Alabama football dynasty beginning with Caleb’s father, Jeremiah, who was voted MVP in 1982 during coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s last season as head coach. Just like his father, Caleb also played football for the University of Alabama but quit the team in 2013 after winning two national championships to pursue an acting career.

In 2015, Caleb made his debut on the silver screen as Tony Nathan, a running back for the University of Alabama in the 1970s, in the movie “Woodlawn,” which was filmed in Birmingham.

Production was halted on both “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” because of the coronavirus pandemic. However, “NCIS: Los Angeles” hopes to return to set and begin filming as early as Sept. 3.
