Eli Gold appeared on the Crimson Tide Sports Network Pregame Show on Saturday, where he gave an update on his health.

“I wanted to take a moment to point out I’m not sick,” said Gold. “Some people may perceive that. I’m not sick. I have orthopedic issues. A lot of people who have seen me at baseball games, football games, whatever, know that I have had trouble getting around the last couple of years. It was time to get that taken care of.”

Gold also revealed in the appearance that he has lost weight during his time away, “It’s not the way you want to lose 100 pounds, but it had to be done.”

The University of Alabama announced in early August that the longtime radio broadcaster would be sidelined to start the 2022 football season due to health issues.

The voice of the Crimson Tide was very appreciative for all of the support that he has received from Alabama fans and hopes to be back.

“We’ve got the greatest fans in the world,” said Gold. “I’m not going to be back next week, I’m not going to be back the next week, but I will be back.”

Chris Stewart has sat in for Gold this season, taking over responsibilities in the booth and serving as the primary host for “Hey Coach” and “The Nick Saban Show.”

Townsquare Media in Tuscaloosa is a proud partner of Crimson Tide Network and will continue to broadcast Alabama Athletics in the 2022-23 season.
