Potential for Damaging Winds, Hail, and a Brief Tornado Across Alabama
Alabamians will start the week with the potential for severe weather that will originate in Mississippi, track through Alabama, and then move toward Georgia, the Carolinas, and the Northeastern states.

In West Alabama, we can expect a few rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms. The first wave of activity will occur this morning, with an additional round scheduled for this afternoon and into the evening.
Risk Levels, Areas, and Timing
The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state of Alabama under a slight risk for strong to severe storms for this morning and this afternoon into the evening. This risk assignment is also in place for Mississippi.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said to keep in mind that “it won't rain all day, and some spots could actually miss the rain completely. Chance of any one spot getting wet today is 70-75 percent.”
Threats
The primary concerns with the various waves of storms are the following threats:
Severe Wind Outlook
Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph
The probability of severe hail is between 15% and 29%.
Severe Hail Outlook
There is a concern for large hail up to quarter-size within the different rounds of storms.
The probability of severe wind is between 5% and 14%.
Tornado Outlook
Another concern is the low chance of a brief tornado across Alabama today.
The probability of a tornado is between 2% and 4%.
Looking Ahead
“The weather gradually shifts back to a more typical summer pattern with showers and storms becoming fewer in number, and more widely spaced,” said Spann.
