Christ Church Choir to Present Advent Lessons & Carols, Dec. 8
On **December 8** at 6:00 p.m., Christ Episcopal Church in downtown Tuscaloosa will host a special Advent celebration with the **Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols**, presented by the **Christ Church Adult Choir** and soloists. This service, free and open to the public, marks the second week of Advent—a season of prayer and preparation leading up to Christmas. Nursery services will also be available.

This service follows the nearly century-old English tradition of **Lessons and Carols**, first sung on Christmas Eve at King’s College, Cambridge. The church will be decorated with winter greenery and the Advent wreath, setting a reflective tone for the evening.
The program will feature beautiful carols and anthems, including "Adam Lay Ybounden" by Peter Warlock, Paul Manz's "E’en so, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come," and "A Maiden Most Gentle" in an arrangement by Andrew Carter. Special solo performances will include selections from Handel’s *Messiah*, sung by soloists **Sophia Dornellas** and **Allana Perrin**, and an eleven-year-old soloist, **Maggie Delbridge**, who will begin the final carol, "Once in Royal David’s City."
Scripture readings from the Old and New Testaments will be interspersed with the musical selections, including traditional hymns like “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus.” The evening will conclude with an organ improvisation by **Dr. Steven Taranto**.
Join the Christ Church community for this moving Advent service of music, scripture, and reflection.
