Charter School Groundbreaking Ceremony at Stillman College
In partnership with Stillman College, I Dream Big Academy Charter School (IDBA) will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. to commemorate the launch of Alabama's first partnership between a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and a charter school.
The event represents a significant step forward in advancing education, equity, and opportunities for families in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding communities.
“Set to open in Fall 2025, I Dream Big Charter School will welcome students in grades 6th through 8th, adding a grade level each year and is already generating high community interest,” said the Stillman College press release.
Dr. Angela Lang, IDB Charter Founder and Executive Director; Dr. Yolanda W. Page, President of Stillman College; Dr. Meredith Anderson, UNCF Director of K-12 Research; and Local Pastors, Parents, and IDB Charter supporters will attend the groundbreaking event.
I Dream Big Charter stands out as Tuscaloosa's first and only tuition-free charter school, offering families a unique public education alternative. It also holds the distinction of being Alabama’s sole Big Picture Learning institution, emphasizing a personalized, hands-on approach that focuses on student interests and career exploration.

The press release said, "While enrollment applications are currently being accepted, some grade levels are at capacity and operating on a waitlist.”
Through its pioneering partnership with Stillman College, I Dream Big Charter has emerged as a lab school, serving as a hub for teacher development while providing K–12 students with early access to college and career pathways. This forward-thinking approach integrates higher education, professional mentorship, and experiential learning, creating unique opportunities for students from the outset.
