After a long offseason of construction, Bryant-Denny Stadium is ready for football season. The newly renovated stadium will host its first game next week, Oct. 3 when the Crimson Tide welcomes the Teas A&M Aggies in Alabama's home opener.

The $107 million project got underway at the conclusion of the 2019 season and will be ready just in time for the delayed college football season. The renovations, which are part of Athletic Director Greg Byrne's 'Crimson Standard' were allowed to continue throughout the summer despite the COVID-19 pandemic that derailed businesses across the nation.

Byrne spoke with AL.com and revealed the stadiums new capacity after construction is 100,077, down from 101,821. This season, with the COVID-19 seating restrictions, Bryant-Denny will accommodate 20,000 fans in order to follow social distancing guidelines.

The new capacity keeps Bryant-Denny stadium in the top 10 nationally in seating capacity and No. 3 in the SEC behind Tennessee and LSU.

The renovations included larger concourses, four upgraded video boards, new elevators for easier accessibility of the upper-deck, upgraded locker rooms and recruiting rooms and the press box was shifted to a new area in the stadium.

The construction project, led by Caddell Construction Company, was delayed a few times this summer due to workers contracting COVID-19 and needing to sanitize the work site. The decision to delay the start of the season allowed the project to be completed prior to the first home game of the season.
