Brian Robinson Jr. has patiently waited his turn to become the bell cow at running back for Alabama. The NCAA Division I board of directors voted to give all fall sport student-athletes an additional year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic and Robinson is taking full advantage.

In four seasons, Robinson has recorded 1,361 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 274 attempts. He has spent the last two seasons as the backup to the 2020 Doak Walker Award winner, Najee Harris.

The Tuscaloosa native came to Alabama as unanimous four-star in the 2017 recruiting cycle. Robinson was part of a recruiting class that included, Tua Tagovailoa, DeVonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Dylan Moses, Mac Jones, Xavier McKinney, Jedrick Willis and Harris.

As a freshman in 2017, Robinson rushed for 165 yards and two scores on 24 carries. His 10.2 YPC led all Alabama running backs. In 2018, he picked up 272 yards on 63 carries and added another two touchdowns. Robinson earned special teams player of the week by the Alabama coaches for his play against The Citadel.

Robinson saw an increased role in the Crimson Tide offense as a junior and formed one of the best one-two punches in the country with Harris. He rushed for 441 yards and five touchdowns on 96 carries and added 11 receptions for 124 yards. As a senior in 2020, Robinson recorded 483 yards and six touchdowns on 91 carries.

Alabama has a crowded running back room heading into the 2021 season. Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams showed a lot potential as true freshman last season. Keilan Robinson was solid as freshman in 2019, but opted out of the 2020 season. The Washington D.C. has been turning heads during the Crimson Tide's Fourth Quarter Program. Former five-star and the top-rated running back according to Rivals and 247Composite in the class of 2019, but Robinson is primed to be the lead back in this offense.
