Baseball Country is a faith-based organization that uses athletics and games to reach young people for God.

Tuesday night was the monthly gathering at baseball country, and well over a hundred men gathered to celebrate, talk, sing, and hear Tuscaloosa resident and former Alabama football, as well as NFL star, Rich Wingo share stories about his life.

He was a part of one of the greatest plays in college football history. The goal line stand as Alabama played Penn State in the 1979 Sugar Bowl. From Pee-wee football all the way through his career in the NFL, he always led his team in tackles.

He shared his testimony and multiple stories about the struggles of life that he has overcome with God‘s help. The men’s meeting has been happening for over five years now on the second Tuesday of each month.

We need more positive things in our community, especially when hate seems to get all of the press in 2025. This has been a great way to encourage young men to be better fathers, husbands, local leaders, and even workers in their chosen career field.

Who doesn’t enjoy hearing an Alabama football legend tell great stories about the glory days of the Crimson Tide? Great local business leaders, such as Shane Spiller of Spiller Furniture, are also a significant part of initiatives like this for our community.

The more we can help lead young people toward a healthier and happier future, the more we can make a positive difference in West Alabama for generations to come. Enjoy the video of the group singing the powerful worship song, “Made For More”, during the meeting this week.
